This category of games fuses the simple pleasure of playing games with a pack of cards with an ability to collect, trade and personalise your experience. Some of the most popular options within this category include Magic: The Gathering, Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh and Legend of the Five Rings. Each has their own merits, and all are popular at Rule Zero.
Magic: The Gathering
Magic: The Gathering is the world’s first and best trading-card game. It’s a strategy card game where each and every player gets to choose the pieces they want to play with. Imagine sitting down to a game of chess, where each player gets to pick and choose exactly which pieces are most fun/powerful for them, and you wouldn’t be a million miles off. It has a fantasy/magical theme, just like chess with all its knights and castles, but with over 20,000 different cards to choose from, it offers a lot of room for individuality.
At Rule Zero, we have more experience with Magic: The Gathering than pretty much anywhere in the country. Tim has worked on event coverage for the highest level Magic events for well over a decade, while Gav is one of the world’s foremost authorities on buying and selling Magic cards. Not that either of them like to toot their respective horns on such things.
Regardless of your level of experience when it comes to Magic, Rule Zero is a great place to play. We focus on the more casual side of play here, but can offer support to players looking to get more out of the game no matter how they most like to play it. We have a very active Commander scene, which is a laid back multi-player format, great for players of all experience levels. If you are looking for advice on how to start, how to get better, individual cards, rules or other resources, we are more than happy to help.

Pokemon Trading Card Game
For more than 15 years, kids all over the world have been discovering the enchanting world of Pokémon. Today, the Pokémon family of products includes video games, the Pokémon Trading Card Game, the Pokémon animated TV series, movies, toys, and much more.
The games encourage strategic thinking and, in many cases, basic math skills. Pokémon puts a strong emphasis on good sportsmanship and respect for other players, as well. And many parents feel that the Pokémon TCG and Pokémon video games encourage their children to learn to read, since reading is required in most Pokémon games
In the Pokémon Trading Card Game, players build decks around their favorite Pokémon and then play against each other, sending their Pokémon into battle to prove who the best Pokémon Trainer is. Players can begin with theme decks—preconstructed decks designed to cover the basics of the game. Then, they can augment their card collections with booster packs that provide more cards, letting players develop more diverse decks. With thousands of cards to choose from, the game is never the same twice. The Pokémon Company International releases four sets of cards, called “expansions,” each year, so the game continues to evolve and expand for both players and collectors.

TRADING CARD GAME, players use the cards they’ve collected to construct Decks consisting of 40 or more cards.
